What am I reading: Well, when I have the time to read, which is very little, it varies a lot. I read a chapter of one book then move onto the other. Currently I'm reading Can't Stop, Won't Stop: A History of the Hip-Hop Culture by Jeff Chang, Gender Outlaw by Kate Bornstein, and Naked by David Sedaris. But I'll read anything by Kate Bornstein, Leslie Feinberg, Michele Tea, Nadene Modem, and Judith Frank...and more. Some favorites are: Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chobsky, Hairstyles of the Damned by Joe Meno, Love Is A Mixtape by Rob Sheffield and again more. I don't get to read as much as I'd like to though. What am I listening to: Oh geez, thats an ever-changing answer. Right now: The Cat Empire, Bloc Party, Broken Social Scene, The Clash, Sleater-Kinney, Social Distortion, Chris Pureka, The Cliks, The Distillers, Pinback, Bitch, God-des & She, City and Colour, Tegan and Sara, The Gossip, Horrorpops, The Be Good Tanyas, A Loss For Words, Feels Like July, Uh Huh Her, Medicated Kisses, Alix Olson, Andrea Gibson, The Postal Service, The Format, Rilo Kiley...it really changes every day, hour, or mood haha. Always: Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, Le Tigre, Chris Pureka, Brand New, The Distillers, Bloc Party, Tegan and Sara to name a few. Guilty Pleasure Music: I may or may not sort of love Britney Spear's new CD. I was/am an NSYNC junkie and I'm proud to say that I saw the Spice Girls on their reunion tour haha. Most anything from the 80s & 90s. But I sometimes thoroughly enjoy listening to emo/pop/punk because that's what I grew up on as an angsty teen. I love to dance like the nerd I am, so a lot of underground and mainstream rap/hip-hop to groove to...and a lot more that I'm not sure I'm ready to admit to...like a handful of songs by Rod Stewart and David Bowie. Ideal Field Trip: A car. Summer/Spring. Good Friends. Good tunes. Longboards. Unexpected adventures. oh and my dog, Drew. What is an area that you think the American Musical has neglected to explore? Queers & Britney Spears in Space in 20 years. yeah, I'd pay to see that. |

What I am reading:
Good G*d?! Do you really think I have time to read? After being asked to effin’ write this blurb already, I was like, fuck! I don’t read, what the hell am I gonna say? So, I said to myself last night- ‘ok, Al, this is good for you, I know you have to-do lists with entries such as finish the other to-do list, but relaxation is healthy once in a blue moon (ok I don’t believe that, but follow along). So I looked at my stack of things I’ve wanted to read for ages like Les Feinberg’s newest book and other tomes on gender theory and thought of all the back issues of art publications like Artforum that I should be reading but alas, there was something else I’ve been trying and wanting to get to for weeks and weeks. The last issue of Good Housekeeping magazine (I’m a month behind). It has Rachel Ray on the cover. I’m not a big RR fan but I am a foodie. For example, tonight I watched RR make comfort food while I baked vegan, gluten free, carob brownies for my boyfriend (and all in a hello kitty apron). Anyway… the magazine was lovely, ah if I only had more time for such intellectual pursuits. What I am listening to:
Again, hellooooooo, no time and since I don’t drive to work I get little music time. Then there’s the fact that if I tell the truth it’ll all fit under the next question. I will say this, I know Bitch’s new/solo album is about to drop and when it does I am so there. Guilty pleasure music:
Wow-what’s worse? My Brittany Spears Greatest Hits or Elton John's Greatest hits CD? Wait, I’m a fag, it’s required, no guilt involved. I am actually listening to the new Dixie Chicks CD these days. Yes, you read me right, I, the urban, artsy, Jewish trannyfag likes to sing along to 3 Texans. You wouldn’t wanna hear it seeing as my once amazing singing voice went the way of the Dinosaurs with T induced voice change. But c’mon, those girls can blow and I appreciate anyone who hates George Bush as much as I do. Ideal field trip:
Me and a gaggle of super sexy boys having an orgy at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World (after our character breakfast, of course). Oh, and if you could put a great contemporary art museum like PS.1 near Epcot or something it would be mighty nice. What is an area that you think the American Musical has neglected to explore?
My former water aerobics class at the Y which included middle aged women and a big flamer instructor. |

“Appalachian Geisha Wear NASCAR Kimono” ~Gina Mamone What I am reading: Hehe, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. but before that I was reading every damn book Chuck Palahniuk decided to write. He's a fantastic writer and I highly recommend “choke” and “survivor.” What I am listening to: Ray Charles. A bit of everything, really, but he's up there on my hot list. Silverstein, Coldplay, The Starting Line (yes I get cheesy pop punk at times, hehe), The Static Age, Tori, Zero 7, Greenday, Jamison Parker, Harry Connick Jr, Garbage, Fiona Apple, Something Corporate, Frou Frou, Joss Stone, Dinah Washington, Wax Poetic, Mae, Sneakerpimps... way too many to name now that I think about it. Guilty pleasure music: Ashlee Simpson. Now I give you permission to shoot me. Although, wait a second... Gina, aren't you down with the drrrty of Miss Aguilera? Oh. Oh yes that's right, you are. Ideal field trip: It definitely would be me and Vince Vaughn on a trip to the wine country. Hands down. That guy makes me pee myself as it is... imagine him drunk. But the only catch is that Dane Cook would have to be presenting each wine to us. That my friends would be hilarious. What is an area that you think the American Musical has neglected to explore? Psychics and astrologers who are best friends with deceased celebrities. |

Music Anarchist quote "I will tickle you with pain and misery" What I'm reading: A bunch of graphic novels (I'm dorktastic!!!!!) including Y: The Last Man, Fables and Whiteout. I was supposed to read a bunch of real books for my book club, but the ones with the pretty pictures kept distracting me. What I'm listening to: In the interest of fairness and pretending I'm a real journalist (it's a game I play), I can't really answer this question. I will tell you what I'm watching though. I heart Hedwig and the Angry Inch, But I'm a Cheerleader, Me Without You, Shortbus, all seven seasons of Buffy, Heroes, Ugly Betty and, ummm, the L Word (It's so, so wrong and the plots are horrible, but hey, naked chicks). Guilty Pleasure Music: Kelly Clarkson. I'm so moving on. Field Trip: John Cameron Mitchell, New York City, Toni Collette and lots of chocolate products. Mix it all together and you get perfection. Area the American Musical Has Failed to Cover: Highlander: The Musical. You haven't lived until you've heard Christopher Lambert's sweet, sweet tenor. |

Allister is an Urban Snow Lion. He is just as much at home in Brooklyn / New York as he is in Wild Wonderful West Virginia. Allister is the official pet / mascot of the rEvolution. Allister is a rescue dog adopted from an Animal Shelter in WV. Many urban shelters are “no kill” shelters and often have very strict adoption guidelines and the adoption waiting list that can last months. Often when you drive an hour or two out of the city this is not the case, in fact it is the exact opposite. Allister & the rEvolution encourage you next time you are thinking about extending your family with another pet to avoid puppy mills, unrepeatable pet shops / chains and take a day trip to a shelter that might not be in the same county as your zip code but you will be definitely saving a life! |
